We saw termite mounds pretty much everywhere.

The only downside to the safaris was that there were many jeeps and they would tend to congregate wherever the animals were, especially the elephants.

How many monkeys can you count?

Dogs were everywhere in Sri Lanka but surprisingly few cats. Sri Lankans generally do not like cats. Apparently, one reason for this is that for a very long time, doctors have, unjustifiably, blamed cats for many rashes and illnesses that children get.

We saw two Mongoose at Horton Plains National Park in the highlands. Our driver said that it was the first time he had seen Mongoose at Horton Plains. They have their heads down digging around for grubs in the soft earth.

This visitor was in the garden at Warrick Bungalow (a former tea plantation owner's home). Although it looks like a cobra, and they do have poisonous cobras in Sri Lanka, this one was a harmless Rat snake. At 7 feet long, it didn't look harmless.
