Che Guevera was an Argentinian Marxist revolutionary and a major figure of the Cuban Revolution. Since his death in 1967, Guevara's stylized visage has become a countercultural symbol. You see his image everywhere in Cuba.

Looking from the rooftop or our hotel, one can see the "Capitolio Nacional" with its magnificent dome. Next is the "Teatro de La Habana" which like many buildings in Havana is in a state of disrepair although not as bad as many and is still in use. The other buildings are recently updated hotels.

While in Havana, we stayed at the beautiful "Hotel Parque Central" which is across the street from Central Park in old Havana.

When the old buildings have been repaired and modernized, they are grand indeed. Sadly, very few have been.

But sadly, decay in the streets and buildings is seen almost everywhere.

Remarkably, people live in these old buildings, even if the ground floor is totally uninhabitable. Often the balconies have to be propped up to keep from collapsing.
