I did a project on homeless people in Toronto a few years ago. You have to take time to listen to their story and gain their confidence. I made this a high contrast B&W to emphasize the gritty nature.

Taken at Toronto Pow_Wow. She definitely looked like she did not want to be there. The atmosphere was generally happy and festive.

Unexpected Story with Happy Ending

We stopped in a small park near Port Carling in Muskoka on the way home and saw these kids being photographed. Our pictures were better than the ones their grandmother took on an old mobile phone so we sent a few to her. They were very happy to get them. The little boy on the left fell out of the tree moments after I took this picture. Fortunately, he was OK even though he landed on rocks.

Maggie and I went on a street photography trip to Cuba hosted by Toronto photographer Juris Kornets. We learned a lot about Street Photography on the trip. We are both more comfortable taking people pictures now.

In Tunisia, Maggie wanted to take his picture - we always ask and he said "no". Shorty after he motioned for me to take his picture. Females were well respected when we where there but not from the era he came from.

Children love to have their picture taken. This was in Jordan.

This young lad was at the Appleby Horse Fair in the UK. It is one of the biggest fairs shows in Europe. I think he must have been Irish with red hair like that.

My neighbour Francie has cancer and these were taken during one of her chemo sessions over several weeks. The positive side was that it gave her motivation to dress up and she found it quite liberating. She felt better about herself at a tough time in her life. While she is not yet free of cancer, she has survived much longer than doctors had forecast. Her hair has since grown back richer than ever.

A portrait of my granddaughter at just over 1 year.

My brother-in-law who has since passed away. It turns out it is one my sister's favourite pictures of John. And it was just a grab shot at a family gathering.

My nephew Mike - look at those blue eyes.

My UK niece. This was a shot where I used a portrait lens and staged the shot. Most of the others were taken with a general-purpose zoom lens taken at the spur of the moment.

And here is the love of my life. A grab shot that turned out rather well.
